Pupils inspired by international footballer at local pitch opening

Pupils from Ingoldsby Academy were delighted to meet England international footballer, Sue Smith, as part of a football tournament at Charles Read Academy in Corby Glen.

The competition was part of the grand opening of Charles Read Academy’s brand new 3G All-Weather Sports Pitch. To mark the occasion pupils participated in matches against a number of local primary schools including, Corby Glen Community Primary, Ropsley CE Primary and The Bythams Primary School.

During the special event the children also had a masterclass with Sue Smith and met Peterborough United Manager, Dave Robertson.

Miss Sorrell, Headteacher, said: “I am so pleased to be part of such a wonderful event. The pitch looks brilliant and I am delighted that we were lucky enough to be one of the first schools to play on it. The children loved meeting Sue Smith, she was really friendly and gave them lots of tips and advice.

Miss Sorrell added: “Charles Read Academy is also a David Ross Education Trust academy, so we are delighted to build our links with them and ensure our pupils also benefit from these incredible facilities as well as other fantastic community events.”
